Joseph Parrella joined us as VP of CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls). Previously, Joe was VP of Technical Operations at Arranta Bio where he was responsible for leading the design and startup of development and manufacturing platforms for pDNA, mRNA, and LNP at clinical and commercial scale. Also, in close partnership with MIT and the FDA, he was the technical lead for the development of a continuous mRNA and LNP manufacturing platform. Prior to Arranta Bio, Joe was the Associate Director of CMC at Translate Bio (acq. by Sanofi for 3.2B) where he was the technical lead for scale up, tech transfer, and manufacturing through Phase 2 clinical development. He has led the design and start of multiple manufacturing facilities for mRNA and LNP manufacturing from 5,000 – 30,000 ft2. He has worked with large bioreactors, tangential flow filtration systems, isolators, anaerobic isolators, depth filtration, IVT & C/T reaction vessels, chromatography systems, lyophilizers, LNP mixing systems, and fill/finish equipment. Earlier in his career Joe worked at BMS, Seres Therapeutics, and EMD Millipore Corporation as a Senior Engineer specializing in nucleic acid products, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, plasma products.
